Giddy with excitement, Kayla and I set out early in the morning for the Shangri~La music festival at Harmony Park Music Garden with a pre-loaded van, ready to be parked and slept in. We were hoping for 12 straight hours of hooping to incredible bands outdoors. However, we hit two of the worst traffic jams ever on the way, and as we arrived and set foot out of our luxurious air conditioning, we immediately began dripping sweat and realized it was way too hot to hoop. It was a huge bummer. So we spent very little time hooping that day. We really only brought them out for the parade followed by a drum circle. After that we waited until dark and got in a good LED hooping session to what felt like a private acoustic session with Jon Wayne and the Pain after the shows were all over. Lucky us!
We joined the Red Nose Revolution before the Heatbox show with my brother and a couple of our great friends. When dudes on a golf cart came by with red noses for $1, I said, “I’ll take five.” It’s for a good cause, right?
Some of these photos (the good ones) are from Megan J Huizel Event Photography’s Facebook page. You can also check out her awesome collection of photos from the festival on her Flicker page.
I love Harmony Park. I go to the Bella festivals. I am a hooper as well, but I want to start teaching it. How do I start doing that?
We started out just teaching our friends and once we became more serious about it we took Hoopnotica’s Teacher Training Program and then got involved in community ed programs teaching.
